As a preface to this newsletter, I wanted to be clear on what my goals are and what these weekly posts will entail. I am using this newsletter as a way to document my journey of learning the process of real estate investing, and basically dump all the information I have learned into this funnel. I am in no way trying to act as a “guru” or mentor. I am most likely in the same boat as a lot of you reading this, and I think that brings a lot of value. Most investing blogs and videos are all about those that have done it already and are at the top. I want this to be more relatable to the average person who wants to get started, and can follow along with my wins and losses!
What’s up everyone! For this weeks post, were doing something a little different. Usually, those who have subscribed to my newsletter get an extra post each week of a Deal I analyze and run the numbers for. This week, everyone is getting that extra email because I thought this topic was fun, and I just feel like sending it out!
Going along the lines of the classic subscriber only “Deal of the Week” im going to send you all a “Property of the Week”. This one is going to be a little out there, but bring your imagination (and a few hundred thousand dollars) and you’ll see the vision! We’re heading up North to the beautiful town of Kennebunkport, Maine, where the giant pine trees surround the sharp cliffs of the Atlantic Ocean. Hold onto your seats, were going for a ride!
The Property
I bring to you, the off grid, monolithic, funky, kind of scary, geo-dome on 43 acres. Yes it’s only a 3 bed 1 bath for about $700,000, and yes it looks like something out of a movie, but hey, this isn’t the DEAL of the week, so don’t look at the numbers too hard. Also, i’ll include a link to the listing here so you can check it out yourselves.
Let’s dive into the interior of this place, because I think this is where the property really shines. For starters, check out this awesome entry way with the beautiful handmade door.
From there, you head into the main living space with unique tile floors and lots of natural light. Everything in the home is very natural and organic. They did a great job of blending old, spanish style with newer midcentury modern.
Speaking of old, this cast iron oven/stove is one of the coolest things i’ve ever seen.
The bathroom is light and bright, continuing those beautiful tile floors and natural wood tones.
And look how cool your property looks from above! With 43 acres you could build 100 of these things. Or you know, a normal house if you want. But normal is boring so geo-dome it is!
Every now and then, I really like to take a step back and dream a little. Finding places like this one is really a great way to do that, and to imagine what it would be like if you dropped everything and moved to an off grid monolith home in the middle of the woods in Maine. But seriously, it’s cool to see a totally different way of living that might actually be more attainable than you thought.
A Weekend Send Off Rant
The whole point of this newsletter is for me to have a place to document what I am learning in my real estate journey, and to take you, the readers along for the ride with me. Something I have learned, and really enjoy about real estate is how many different avenues there are to explore. You can go from a classic, stick framed house that you see on every street corner, to something like this above that just blows you away and makes you inspired to find more weird, unique, funky places all over the world. In my opinion, there is a whole market in real estate for unique homes, that challenge the status quo of what’s been the “norm” in home building. There are so many options out there to build homes cheaper, easier, and more sustainably, and what better time to do it than now. I used to think real estate was this one dimensional thing, where you sell someone a “forever home”, and move onto the next client who wants the same thing (which it definitely can be). But it can also be something totally different, where you create a unique experience for someone that they’ve never seen before, and give them a refreshed view on REAL estate. Which is just real property. Which can be anything. A barn converted into a home. A houseboat. A tiny home on wheels. Anything! And when you realize there is a market out there for these out of the box, fun properties, it can open up a whole different side of real estate for you. That’s what it did for me! And I plan on creating these unique experiences in my lifetime through rentals, flips, and whatever else I come across that strikes my fancy. Life is too short to stick to one thing, so do whatever you want, and have fun with it!
I hope you all enjoyed this weeks newsletter and took something away from it that you didn’t know before. As always if you enjoyed, feel free to share this with someone you know might be interested. Also, subscribe below if you want to continue receiving an extra newsletter every week that shows a full “Deal of the Week” analysis where I pick a property to analyze from start to finish!
